As we reported last week, John Bullough’s lecture at VISION last month was selected as the best lecture by the attendees and the members of the steering committee. The work described in his presentation will greatly facilitate the objective demonstration and quantification of new driver vision technologies’ safety effects. In this week’s news, we bring you an interview with Bullough.
This is a happy occasion—the first time an American presentation has won such an award at a major European symposium. It shows Americans are no longer stuck in yesterday’s thinking of lighting as a cheap-as-possible commodity. We’re seeing good ideas and good research from North America, and an increasing number of American thinkers and researchers are convinced of the importance of lighting in the automotive industry. NHTSA’s present interest in advanced lighting for improved safety is another excellent sign, and yet another is the great interest in the DVN Workshop next month near Detroit with more than 220 people registered, 20% more than the last one there.
All of us on the DVN team wish you a grand start to the new year. Onward and upward in 2015! See you in Michigan in just under two weeks.
Sincerely yours
DVN Editor in Chief
