I visited the Avatr design studio in Munich a few weeks ago. When Avatr appeared in the media in 2021, it was a real surprise – the Avatr 11 looks so modern, with its proportions, its overhang, and its super nice, innovative lighting design: a super long DRL, super big headlamps, everything well integrated into the bumper and fender. It’s a bit like a UFO, yet you recognize the car at a first look. While Human Horizon and their Hiphi X was super exuberant with (too much?) visible lighting technology, the Avatr looks more premium and modern, a good balance of design, technology, and modernity. So I took great pleasure in visiting them to learn more about the what-and-how of their work, and gain insight into their design and lighting philosophy.
Too, this week you’ll find reports on other DVN field trips in China. It’s all of a piece with our strong focus right now on our DVN Shanghai event, to be held on 8 – 9 September. We are developing the docket to put together a great event after summer vacation. As usual it will be an excellent mix of safety and design & regulation, with a diverse international audience looking broadly and deeply into the vehicle lighting features showcased at the Beijing Autoshow this past April. I’m excited already – how about you?
All best,
