With support from GTB and leading makers, TU Darmstadt’s Professor Khanh has undertaken a project to study communication between AVs and other traffic participants. Prof. Khanh has a big docket of experiments planned for now and in the coming months. Two kinds of light are considered: light to advertise the presence of an AV, and light to inform that the AV has “seen” a pedestrian. This topic comprises questions not only of technology, but also of psychology and the behaviour of persons in the traffic flow in a city.
As part of the effort, TU Darmstadt designed a questionnaire with an answering time of about 15 minutes (short version) or 30 minutes (long version). The survey comes in German, English, and Chinese. Now, in cooperation with Prof. Khahn, we bring this questionnaire to the DVN community, made up of people especially well qualified to think and comment about these matters.
Find the survey here and fill it out, won’t you please? There are three good reasons to do so:
• to help the TUD team succeed in this important study
• to give weight to the study in order to convince regulators
• to better know the challenge of the lights coming with the arrival of AVs.
I already filled out the questionnaire, and I found it interesting and fun. You’re sure to do likewise, so go click!
TU Darmstadt’s Timo Singer will present a lecture on a part of this project at the VISION congress next month.
Sincerely yours
DVN President
