We are hard at work preparing to provide excellent coverage of 2015’s events for the DVN community. Of course, we’re not done with 2014, yet; be sure to stop by www.drivingvisionnews.com and have a look at the pictures from the Mondial auto show in Paris.
There is also an important event in the larger lighting world, which we have decided to be involved with: 2015 has been declared the International Year of Light by the United Nations . This is to celebrate the importance of light as a fundamental condition of life for humans; animals; and plants, and therefore also as a central part of science and culture . Furthering the science of light brings a long list of benefits including better understanding of the cosmos , better treatment options in medicine, and myriad technological developments. The motto for the year is ” Light for Change”. And 2015 brings anniversaries of many important optical science publications. 400 years ago, French engineers developed the first prototype of a solar-powered machine . 200 years later, Fresnel published his first work on the wave theory of light . Maxwell laid in 1865 the basics of electrical theory with his theory of classical electrodynamics. In 1915 Einstein presented his general theory of relativity . In 1965 Penzias and Wilson put forth the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation proof of the Big Bang theory . We have every reason to look eagerly and optimistically forward to continued advancement of humanity through light-related discoveries!
Sincerely yours
