This past month, the Intelligent Transport System World Congress was held in Detroit. The congress was focused on autonomous cars and the infrastructure they need. In this week’s DVN we bring you a fascinating paper by IAV’s John Cooper; it addresses a crucial question for all of us: will autonomous cars propel vehicular lighting…or kill it off? Today, progress in ADAS is boosting the need and progress for lighting; right now the best example is ADB—see the DVN Report, published last week, on ADB and matrix technology. It is pushing the traditional low/high beam into the history books; today’s driver wants to have daytime seeing all night long.
Perhaps in twenty years we won’t need headlamps any longer, but at least for the next 15 next years we’ll see lighting technology go nowhere but upward.
Back to that ADB report: thanks for all your feedback about it—we’re glad you like it! To excerpt just two of the comments received:
Prof. Khanh : “I am very proud to contribute to your paper. I shall use this paper for my students here in Darmstadt.”
Ingolf Schneider : “I want to express my thanks for your constant work on all this lighting toppics, all the support you give the community with your team, and also this great report.”
I and the DVN team are, as always, at your service.
Sincerely yours,
DVN Editor in Chief
