The program for the DVN Workshop in Paris later this month is now finalised, and I am very proud to announce confirmed presentations to be given by talented, thoughtful representatives from OEMs, set makers, light source suppliers, universities and regulators worldwide. The workshop will start with a lecture by Wolfgang Huhn. He will talk about the consequences of political change, Vision Zero and collision-free cars, ADAS and autonomous cars.
Then Christian Amann will speak for his first time at a DVN workshop about BMW’s new baby: laser headlamp technology. We are also eager to hear Gunnar Koether, speaking also for his first time at DVN. He will present VW’s strategy on front and rear lights.
Ingolf Schneider, who is strongly promoting lighting inside Opel and GM, will present on the topic of the matrix beam technology of which he has been a strong supporter from the start.
Mathieu Lips, who is busily pushing Renault towards innovative lighting, will present his thoughts about styling and lighting.
Jean-Paul Charret and Ralf Schäfer then will present the result of a 4-month survey of most of the world’s set makers, light source suppliers, regulators and universities. The subject: Vision of Lighting Technologies for 2020-2025. I am also excited to be chairing the round table gathering all these lighting experts and managers to talk productively about the future of automotive lighting.
The second part of the Workshop will be equally interesting with lectures from some of our community’s most esteemed R&D directors including Kamislav Fadel from AL, Hans-Theo Dorissen from Hella, Laurent Evrard from Valeo, Rainer Neumann from Varroc, and Jürgen Antonitsch from ZKW. Satoshi Yamamura from Koito will also present a lecture for his R&D director, Mr. Yokoya.
It’s difficult to imagine a better panel of speakers than the one we’ve assembled for you. The lectures will be followed by a round table chaired by Jean-Paul Charret.
After lunch and time for strolling through the exhibition booths, we will have the pleasure to hear lectures from the big 3 light source suppliers giving their vision on where lighting is heading. Chandrajit Basu, a laser expert from HOT in Hannover and GTB President Geoff Draper will close the lectures before the third round table chaired by Ralf Schäfer.
And all that’s not to mention the DVN Aw ards ceremony on 24 February after dinner.
SIA President Jean Brunol and Professor Khanh from TU Darmstadt will give the awards concerning their congresses. On my side, I will be happy and proud to give the award for the DVN personality of the year 2013. See you there!
Sincerely yours
DVN Editor in Chief
