DVN Shanghai workshop registrations are now closed. We will have 220 attendees from over 60 companies, continuing the constant progress since the first 2009 workshop in Stuttgart with 20 attendees or the second one in Paris one year later with 50 attendees.
The big difference between our DVN workshops and other congresses is that there is more intimacy, with possibility and time to discuss in details one or more strategic points in the panel sessions, to share information in the round tables. Even during the lectures, we have enough time to ask questions in order to totally understand the subject. These meetings are done by and for experts but also for managers who have to make decisions .
New technologies need a lot of resources and the ambition of DVN workshops is to help avoid expensive trips in the wrong direction. I think the big challenge during the next months and years will be to address the increasing engineering workload without too much increase in human resources.
I am convinced we can greatly optimise our progress by the following combined actions:
– Fruitful partnerships amongst car makers and lighting suppliers;
– Strong, long-term links with universities and research institutes helping to develop and educate students on lighting; and
– Keeping in touch with what’s happening elsewhere and avoiding to go in a wrong direction. This is what congresses like ISAL and VISION, DVN weekly newsletters, monthly reports and workshops are meant for. I think this explains our ongoing trend of increasingly successful workshops.
Now, what about the next workshop in Shanghai? It’s a chancy venture involving many Chinese players poised to enter a lighting community that has traditionally been small and homogenous enough that everyone knows everyone else. But the two things I am convinced of are their interest in getting acquainted with the latest lighting technologies mainly developed in Europe, the US, and Japan; and their will to integrate the lighting community. For these two reasons I am optimistic about the success of our April Shanghai workshop and happy to welcome all these new Chinese lighting players. Stay tuned!
Sincerely yours
