2012’s Paris Mondial closed 2 days ago and I was there covering the event for DVN readers. We are proud to publish our report for you today, homing in as always on notable and interesting lighting, vision, and driver-assistance related design and engineering.
2012’s Mondial was certainly different—fewer concept cars were shown, but there was a huge number of very interesting production cars unveiled, including mass production models equipped with full LED headlamps.
I was impressed, and have tried in the report to convey it, by the many new production cars wherein headlamps are a key part of the overall styling work. The Audi A3, the BMW 7 Series, the Ford Mondeo, the Seat Leon, the Citroën DS3, and others show real innovation in lighting with the arrival of LED.
And two real stars of the show, the new VW Golf and Renault Clio, are equipped with headlamps and rear lamps which play a great part in the attractiveness of the car.
Plainly, lights are really becoming important as integral design elements; most makers show evidence of understanding the importance of this lever for the overall attractiveness of the car. Engineering and design teams are working more and more together and the results follow and are visible in most cars.
In more than 60 pages and over 200 pictures, we present the new cars exhibited in Paris and their lighting equipment in relation with styling and performance.
Sincerely yours
