With ADB, we have in front of us the greatest vehicle technology ever. It gives drivers 30 metres’ additional seeing distance without increasing glare and it stands to eliminate the intractable problem of getting and keeping headlamps aimed correctly.
This week, DVN Chief Editor Daniel Stern, whom I consider one of the greatest US experts, presents some notable historic events giving experience about how great innovations can be made to succeed: Volvo made their 3-point seatbelt technology licence-free because it offered such a radical improvement in traffic safety and recently, Tesla open-sourced their patents to promote the growth of electric cars. It is interesting to have in mind these experiences—perhaps ADB is the lighting industry’s turn to step up this way.
The second task I personnaly consider for the success of ADB is the importance of studies to convince the regulation authorities of the safety benefits. For that, we have to launch such studies in different areas and to involve a variety of worlwide universities.
The third target is to convince managers to be involved in the regulatory meetings to take decisions. There are today too many meetings and so few decisions about regulations. Managers from car makers and set makers, at the highest level in lighting R&D, have to attend those main meetings in order to take decisions and make them applicable as soon as possible.
Please take time to study these suggestions. The future of ADB depends on it.
Sincerely yours,
DVN President
