It is always intriguing to see what happens outside of the office. Why reinvent what somebody else has already done? Auto shows and workshops are meant for that kind of perusal.
I retain from my Geneva Autoshow visit three main points about lighting: signature, modules, and the potential for communication with front and rear lights. These things will be more and more important. I was also impressed by lights on display cars, including the new styling differentiation possibilities of Audi’s Q8 concept; Range Rover’s front lights with very thin modules for low and high beams with AFS (later also matrix) and matching thin rear light to provide a nice signature; the DS 7 lights, where modules become swivelling jewels; the Peugeot Instinct concept with its special lights predicting those on forthcoming AVs, and many concept cars with very thin and sometimes heavily creased headlamp and rear lamp contours.
What was impossible a few years ago is now to be seen in the auto shows on real cars and “coming soon” models. It demonstrates the wonderful progress the lighting world is achieving and the innovations soon to arrive. That’s exactly why we’re hard at work on our study, “Impact of a changing Car Industry on Exterior Lighting: Evolution or Revolution? – Identify Your Success Factors for the Next Decade”.
Don’t forget, the Shanghai DVN Workshop is coming up next month, and next month is almost upon us. By now you’ve received your flyer in English and Chinese; if you need a fresh copy, grab it from the website. See you there!
Sincerely yours
DVN President
