The greatest automotive event of September in Germany is now behind us.
IAA’s doors closed just before the greatest congress concerning lighting: ISAL.
We are today together, around 830 attendees, after the 685 persons in 2011 and 450 persons two years before during the crisis. Most of the automotive lighting community is well represented by attendees come to hear the great lectures and to network with each other. The speakers are presenting the lighting of tomorrow, confirming or not what we have seen on show and concept cars in IAA. We are amidst a revolution of lighting with LED, ADB, and now laser and OLED technologies. The ISAL congress will show us the latest benchmarks, findings, and achievements.
Of course, much of the world’s automotive-related news in the last week has been focused on VW’s emissions-related troubles. The scandal trapped CEO Martin Winterkorn in a catch-22; he had little choice but to step down. I would like to modestly pay homage to him; during the decades he has done a fantastic job inside the VW Group. I met him several times, during meetings or night drives, and I will always consider him as a clever man knowing perfectly the automotive world including lighting.
My respect and thanks, Mister Winterkorn!
Sincerely yours
