Today DVN brings you our exclusive interview with Reijo Tiuraniemi, CEO of Nordic Lights—a Finish maker of heavy duty work lamps. After starting with halogen lamps in 1992, Tiuraniemi expanded Nordic’s range to include HID lamps in 1999. Their N200HID came to be a favourite HID lamp in the mining industry. Then more HID lamps were released, including auxiliary lamps for heavy and light trucks. In accord with Tiuraniemi’s drive to commercialise new technologies, in 2006 Nordic launched the market’s first LED work lamp. Every year Nordic put out more powerful and sophisticated LED lamps. Their range comprises a wide array of prices, sizes, and performance, from the small N10 producing 300 lumens and weighing 400 g to their top-of-range N46LED putting out 3,300 lumens.
Most of their components come from European and American suppliers. All critical components like bulbs, HID components, LEDs, and electronics are manufactured by well-known western companies. They never sacrifice quality by using substitutes for those critical components. They aim to serve Western as well as local Chinese companies who want high quality lights for their equipment; last year they established a 100% owned manufacturing unit in Suzhou, China, to supply lamps for work machine companies in China.
What’s next? Nordic are deeply involved in an innovative phase of the lighting market. LED products are coming to all applications with extreme speed. This means huge opportunities to continue and increase current growth rate in the coming years. The only condition: to remain the forerunner in new technology and keep focused on the customers and their needs.
What do we retain from Nordic Lights story? In the difficult growth of the automotive and heavy duty lighting market, there is room for more business for western manufacturers provided they focus on cutting edge technologies and don’t compromise on quality.
