In today’s DVNewsletter we continue looking at the Chinese ecosystem, visiting suppliers here you may not yet know.
At the same time, interesting things are happening in the rest of the world, too. We’ve got a look at Tesla’s Cybercab, a two-passenger, fully autonomous car with no driver, no steering wheel nor pedals…and noteworthy lamps. A lot of media around the world remarked on the car’s exterior lighting; reportedly, a robotaxi app could tell a passenger to look for the Cybercab displaying a particular colour, as seen in Austin on the pictures above.
It’s intriguing to see how lighting could be used as a communication tool. Numerous studies were done some years ago about exterior lighting for V2X communication. Will this Cybercab be the first model in North America with this sort of feature while driving? How will it comply with FMVSS 108’s broadly-interpreted prohibition on optional lights impairing the effectiveness of mandatory ones? We’ll have to see.
