In September 2025, we published an article mentioning that 755,000 vehicles were equipped in China with AD-S Turquoise light (755,000 AD-S Lights on Chinese Roads! – DVN).
In 2026, this AD-S feature expanded rapidly. BYD, XPeng, Li Auto, Huawei/HIMA (AITO), Xiaomi, Geely, Great Wall, Dongfeng and other Chinese manufacturers have introduced turquoise marker lamps on many new intelligent-driving models with L2 or L2+ ADAS vehicles, as seen in Beijing autoshow last April.
L2 and L2+ market is expected to reach 5 million vehicles in China in 2026, and we can estimate (summary of different interviews with OEM, Tier1 and Tier2) that 50% will be equipped with ADS Turquoise light, that mean 2,5 million vehicles with turquoise lamps in China this year.
Is it just a fad or a clear trend?
This will depend on regulation evolution. It may be banned in China for L2 vehicles, but mandatory for L3 vehicles, with 6 AD-S lamps on the vehicle (2 front, 2 rear, 2 side). In Europe it may be also allowed on L3 vehicles (still in discussion). L3 estimated market, according to Yole and S&P may reach 10 million vehicles in 10 years, with AD-S Turquoise lamps
In 2030, depending on the regulation, Chinese OEM are expecting 50% of Chinese vehicles equipped with ADS (even 80% for New Energy Vehicles), that means 15 million vehicles.
From a design perspective, Chinese OEM are clearly integrating AD-S turquoise light as a DNA element and a key differentiator. The color is not very well defined in the proposed regulation and OEM can decide exactly what they want between Cyan and Turquoise. A bit bluish or a bit greenish.

Depending on the color defined by styling department, different solutions are available on the market with Direct cyan LED (Monochromatic semiconductor) or Phosphor Converted (PC) blue LEDs.
With Monochromatic LEDs, color will be closer to the border of the diagram, while with PC LEDs the color will be more centered. The color shift at diming current and high temperature will have to be considered for both type LEDs (really important color shift in case of current dimming for monochromatic LEDs)
If optical solution is requesting High power LEDs (3W), as for a light guide application, phosphor converted LEDs will be the unique solution

Regulation has not been yet released, but analysing the current draft, it seems it will not be unique between USA, Europe and China, but a unique design will be possible, depending on the lamp design and integration
In USA, AD-S Turquoise light shall not impair the legal function, so front position lamp will always be ON (DRL is not a mandatory function).
In China, AD-S may replace DRL by day, but Position lamp must still be ON and legal while AD-S in ON (but the reciprocally part can be OFF).
In Europe (and more generally UNECE countries), AD-S May not replace DRL nor position lamp and both shall be ON.
Then a deep regulatory analysis will be needed for OEM and tier1 at vehicle level, even if color and photometrical requirement would be common.
