ARS (Advanced Rear-lamp System) is a very old concept; variable-intensity rear lights were being studied and recommended by safety researchers at least as far back as 1970. Nevertheless, there have been very few commercial applications of the idea.
PSA have been working to developed ARS technology with two goals: to improve safety by dynamically adjusting light signal output for optimal human perception in accord with ambient visibility conditions…
…and to highlight the vehicle’s back façade during day and night time driving.
