Japan’s automotive industry is very strong, with a global vehicle market share of 29%—far ahead of American (18%) or German makers (16%). Toyota are tops in capitalisation value; the Renault-Nissan Alliance is № 1 in the world for quantity of vehicles produced, and that’s on top of Honda, Suzuki, Isuzu, Mazda, and Subaru. For lighting specifically, Japanese set makers command about 35% of the worldwide market. Koito are the worldwide leader with 22% market share in value; Stanley and Ichikoh are the other two of the Japanese Big 3.
Because the Japanese industry is so central to the world’s market, and to dovetail with the the DVN Tokyo Workshop, a thorough study is warranted. Lighting experts Jean-Paul Ravier and Hitoshi Takahashi met with kind, coöperative, attentive, and open lighting VIPs from Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Koito, Stanley, and Ichikoh.
