It was a great pleasure to meet some of you during the 2016 DVN Tokyo workshop, with so many Japanese attendees and participants. Thanks to the very good quality of the simultaneous translation and the relevance of the workshop theme, the presenters’ speeches were highly appreciated. We are busily at work on the report of the event; watch for it to be released on June 21 with a summary of the lectures, plenty of pictures, and presentation of the products and services exhibited in the 18 booths. As is our custom, you will also be able to view those lecture slide shows that have been approved for release.
Now we set our sights on the 2017 workshops! The first will be the US Workshop in January 2017, with the rubric Innovation and Standardisation – Safety & Regulations. These items are the main challenges for car makers, set makers and Tier 2 suppliers at a time when innovatios are increasingly demanded, yet standardisation is a prerequisite of success for mass-market vehicle brands. At the same time, there is growing consensus that regulations must focus firmly on safety. How do we balance all these competing pulls and pushes?.

We had earlier thought to put on a Workshop in Munich, but the timing would have placed it close to ISAL, also in Germany, so we’re moving Munich to 2018; instead, next year we’re going to hold a Workshop in Shanghai. After 2015’s event there, we received strong interest from car makers and set makers to go again in China.
The workshop will be held in April during the auto show. The theme of this workshop will be defined later.
Both of these Workshops are sure to continue building on DVN’s unbroken string of ever-better-and-better events. We’ll keep you informed as the plans take shape! Clearly, lighting is shifting from hardware to software, from mechanics to digital. Very exciting…lots to talk about!
Sincerely yours
DVN Editor in Chief
