Working at DVN gives me opportunities to meet, talk, and listen with great people about lighting and design philosophy. When I was a kid, the BMW M1 was one of my favourites 1:43 model cars. So I was especially keen to talk with BMW R&D and Design experts Frederic Blanc and Sebastian Morgenstern. They were quite open to answering most of my long list of questions, and so here we are with this week’s nice discussion about BMW’s lighting design philosophy.
I also interviewed Wisea Wu to learn more about our new LED-manufacturer DVN member Hongli, and to dig into the new draft GB4785 regulation, which is set to make drastic changes on vehicle lamp installation requirements in China. The main message is that from 2028, turquoise ADS lights are allowed again, but only on AD Level 3-and-higher vehicles. Find more details below.
In the U.S., NHTSA is stepping on the gas about FMVSS 108, as it seems. They’re taking comments on a proposed rulemaking effort that would allow turquoise ADS marker lights, relax an old restriction on headlamp configurations, add provisions to ease the introduction of driverless vehicles, and make other technical adjustments.
As I write this, our DVN India event is about to start with the cocktail hour for DVN members. We are expecting a whopping 800 participants, including Maruti and Tata CTOs, as well as VIPs from most Indian lighting suppliers and Indian national regulators. I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing all about the flourishing Indian market for dynamic innovation in vehicle lighting. And of course, we’ll showcase the highlights in forthcoming DVNewsletters!
Best regards,
