This week it’s my great pleasure to present an interview with Hella’s R&D chief Kamislav Fadel. He has been instrumental in the development of the new Mercedes E-Class headlamp—watch for a report on it next month after I’ve done a night drive with it. I hired Kamislav at Valeo years ago, so I had a front-row seat to watch his remarkable achievements in lighting, his patents and his strength in calculating intricate optical surfaces such as those for complex-shape reflectors.
I was very sad when Renault lured him away from Valeo, but he had a wonderful opportunity there to take charge of Renault’s vehicle lighting systems. From there he moved to Automotive Lighting, and now he is managing Hella’s R&D. In this week’s interview he describes his vision of vehicle lighting systems and technologies of today, tomorrow…and the day after! It’s surely a must-read, and I’m proud to say you’ll find it only here in DVN.
In this newsletter you will also have the opportunity to read a the first part of the report on Lighting & ADAS at SAE Congress ’16.
Sincerely yours
