Lighting technologies are developing very fast with frequent innovations; LEDs, glare-free high beam, matrix beams and laser-based headlamps—faster and faster the list grows longer. We all see and agree the pace of evolution is fast and accelerating, but how come? I think it’s down to two main reasons: beautiful features and passion of the lighting community. Beautiful products are brought to reality by dint of a lot of different skills: optics, electronics, thermics, software, mechanics…and design to convince the makers to work on it and the driver to buy it. And passion in lighting makers both feeds and is fed by the vibrant, engaged, familial lighting community.
It’s always a pleasure to see participants in the lighting community talking together, proudly presenting their achievements in a collegial, mutually appreciative milieu. This spirit percolates up to executives interested by the effect of their decisions in the styling differentiation and in the state of the art in vehicle lighting safety performance.
When I see people making night test drives after a hard day’s work, sometimes twice or thrice a day, enjoying making progress in light, it becomes clear to me that the passion is here to stay, and is crucial to continued success.
Beautiful products, passion, pride to share the results of our work with our fellows—this is the unique explanation of the frequent innovations.
Just look where we are today versus 10 years ago (or even just 5) and amazing wonderful possibilities come to mind for the next 10 years. Of course the work is hard, but it’s well worth it to be in this sector. The future is bright for us all. Take some vacation, get some rest; the coming months will be full of events…and passion!
Sincerely yours
