I was writing my weekly editorial paper focused on ISAL 2011 Congress to be held on September 26 th and 27 th in Darmstadt (see next paper) when I was overwhelmed, like all of us, by the terrible News of the March 11 Tohoku earthquake and ensuing tsunami.
The scale of destructions caused by the earthquake and rampaging seawater which struck the region North West of Tokyo, the loss of so many lives, are hard to comprehend. There are also these nuclear power facilities in the area which are in trouble and have yet to be stabilized.
This region counts numerous Japanese automotive manufacturing partners, dealers, employees. We know for certain that Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Koito, and for sure many other companies had to shut down their operation since and struggle to reestablish their supply chains.
Besides dealing with the immediate humanitarian crisis, thoughts will also be turning to the likely impact of these events on Japan’s economy. Right now however, our deepest concerns and sympathies are for the people of Japan affected by this disaster and for our Japanese friends part of our lighting community.
DVN Team want to express their earnest condolences to all the families of employees of Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Koito , Nichia, Stanley, Denso, and so many other companies, who might have lost some relatives or friends in the March 11 Tohoku Earthquake and ensuing aftermath. To those vastly affected and suffering these days because forced to undergo extreme hardships, we wish very strongly an upcoming recovery which will relieve them from these very sad and difficult circumstances.
