Automobile INDUSTRIE, a German magazine belonging to Vogel Business Media published last month a very interesting special issue on automotive lighting.
Some key lighting players, experts, managers and CEO’s, from car makers, lighting suppliers Tier 1&2, university, presented their strategy explaining what lighting technologies can offer to their company to achieve their targets.
I am proud to have introduced these different lectures—see my forthcoming paper.
I tried to explain that if dreams are the key to awake the appetite of European car buyers, driving at night under safety is a MUST for car makers and their lighting suppliers.
What is a good light and what is a safe drive?
Halogen is a good light to drive in the city or at less than 100km/h but not at speeds over 100km/h and the risk of accident is increased for elderly drivers who need more light.
All the papers in the magazine highlight the future of new technologies with LEDs and intelligent lighting. These technologies make us dream but let us never forget we have the responsibility to offer secure lighting to all.
I understand the drivers who do not want to pay extra price for better light because they have not often the possibility to drive at 130km/h. Nevertheless, it is our responsibility to make drivers aware of what new technologies can offer to allow a safe drive, especially for elderly.
