The 110 th GTB sessions of its General Assembly, Committee of Experts, Working Groups and Taskforces took place in October 25-29 at the Jablonna Palace in Poland.
Poland is the most recent member to join the GTB “family” and the meetings and the customary evening social event were hosted by the Motor Transport Institute, Warsaw. Poland became a member in 2009 and is led by its head delegate Dr Tomasz Targosinski, well known as the Polish government representative at GRE, for many years in the Photometry Working Group and as an expert in vehicle lighting and light-signalling.
With 54 experts participating throughout the week, active debate and exchange of views was assured and a total of 17 proposals for amendments to the ECE regulations will be submitted for the 65 th GRE session in March 2011. A package of amendments to introduce provisions to allow type approval of light signalling devices equipped with standardised replaceable LED light sources. This completes the GTB work to provide a package of proposals that includes a new regulation for the standardised replaceable LED light sources that awaits a decision by the European Community to enable its adoption by WP29. Also adopted was a complete update of Regulation 113 (Headlamps for two wheeled vehicles) that follows the approach already introduced into Regulations 98, 112 and 123.
A half day was devoted to the outcome of the debate at the October session of GRE relating to the GTB proposal to introduce the new 25W HID categories in Regulation 99, and the association with the requirement of some contracting parties to mandate auto-levelling. A proposal supporting the introduction of these new categories was agreed and GTB will prepare a suitable presentation to contribute to the auto-levelling debate at the next GRE meeting.
