GTB held its 109 th meeting in Arnhem from 31 May to 04 June at the invitation of the Dutch Delegation. A total of 65 experts drawn from the 18 national delegations participated to consider a very full agenda and more than 100 documents.
As is usual practice, The Front-Lighting, Signalling and Light Sources working groups and their associated taskforces met at the beginning of the week and the plenary session met for two days to consider proposals intended for submission to GRE. With a very full agenda and fruitful discussion approximately 30 proposals to amend the regulations were adopted and will be submitted to GRE for its October 2010 session.
Among the many items on the agenda the following are particularly significant.
• Adaptive Main Beam
The proposals developed by the ADB taskforce chaired by Dr. Karl Manz were adopted and will be submitted to GRE for the October 2010 session. These proposals are the result of nine taskforce meetings over the past two years that have deeply studied the requirements of the sensor, image processing and lighting systems. Recently the taskforce had benefitted from the participation of GRE experts who had helped to focus on the main priorities of the contracting parties. The challenge for GTB (and GRE) was to define a procedure to validate the software algorithms that are an intrinsic part of the whole system but which cannot be easily verified using normal type approval processes.
As reported in the DVN 24 May 2010 edition, a night drive was arranged to demonstrate the new Adaptive Driving Beam technologies.
