European new-car registrations suffered their second biggest fall of the year in October. They were at 1.13 million units down 14.5% last month compared with October 2007.
The worst performer is Spain, off 40% to the lowest level since 1995.
Germany, the region’s biggest market, fell 8%.
Among the top five manufacturers by market share, General Motors, with brands such as Opel and Vauxhall, took the biggest hit, down 25%.
Volkswagen had the smallest fall, down 7%.
Since January, the number has fallen 5.4% to 12.8 million.
