Last week’s DVN Tokyo Workshop was a smashing success—another in a chain of productive, informative, exciting and fun DVN Workshops around the world.
I especially retain three important points:
- Lighting has a great future, helped by the arrival of autonomous vehicles.
- ADB is the unique solution to improve safety by night, but we need to improve the performance and to decrease the cost, the weight, and the volume.
- The next big challenge is V2x communication by light. We have to work together globally and be actively involved to put forth thoughtful proposals that will support worldwide lighting regulation of the lights for tomorrow’s cars.
All the lectures were at a very high level. It was a special treat to hear Honda’s Ryou Chijimatsu and Nissan’s Hitoshi Nakagaki presenting their hopes and dreams for the future in context of Japan’s lighting culture, Audi’s Wolfgang Huhn discussing the possibility that last Spring’s fatal Uber collision could have been avoided with ADB, Renault’s Paul-Henri Matha and PSA’s Whilk Gonçalves stressing the importance of lighting that works on the “be seen” part of the equation. Most set makers in their interesting lectures emphasised progress and challenges in ADB and V2x, while light source makers justifiably boasted of enormous progress in LEDs and lasers.
The regulatory session was a plum, with two great lectures and a unique panel discussion bringing together participants from Japan, Korea, and China to get Asian perspective on important regulatory questions our whole community presently faces.
Read more about the Workshop in this week’s in-depth article, and we’ll be publishing the full report on the Workshop by the end of the month. In the meantime, I offer many heartfelt thanks:
Thank you to the 280 participants, whose faith in DVN brought them together in Tokyo from all over the world.
Thank you to the speakers, who made such engaging and relevant lectures.
Thank you to the sponsors who set up such grand exhibition booths.
And thank you to all of you who have sent me such nice words which encourage me and give me the passion to continue making each and every DVN Workshop better and better!
Sincerely yours
