Special to DVN by GTB President Geoff Draper
As we celebrate the arrival of 2018 and recall 2017 as another busy year for our lighting community I thought I should write to complete my reports for 2017 and explain what 2018 promises for us. My last report to DVN, last 16 October, summarised the progress being made regarding our once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to simplify and harmonise the technical requirements of the UN Regulations and the Chinese GB Standards. Let’s now complete the picture with a wrap-up of 2017’s activities and achievements and a preview of what’s on the docket in 2018:
1 • GTB 124th session at Nice, France
These meetings, held from 20th–24th November, had an active participation of 64 experts and, as expected, the main topics were the Stage 2 simplification work and the trends in the development of ADS lighting and vehicle communication technologies. The target was to prepare the GTB input for the launch of detailed discussions to develop technology-neutral, performance-based technical requirements. These will be introduced into the three simplified regulations that have been drafted by the GRE IWG-SLR with the target of synchronisation with the Chinese GB standards by the end of 2020; please refer to my previous special report to DVN for details.
