In May 2014, we published a report describing the technological trends in exterior lighting technologies. Based on in-house DVN expertise and predictions and data collected from the automotive lighting community, we published consensus forecasts and drew a roadmap to 2025.
Last month, the ISAL 2015 congress was an open window on the state of the arts of glare-free headlamps, rear lighting, and interior lighting. Autonomous driving appeared for the first time as an important topic which will impact our industry in the near future.
Together with the DVN team and viewpoints from the lighting community, and this time also with views from external sources, we’re preparing a prospective forecast for the future of mobility and automotive lighting at the horizon of 15-20 years. We will investigate the impact on our industry of assisted driving, and the possible advent of a completely new kind of vehicle which might support a progressive and upgradable shift toward autonomous driving, especially in urban environments.
Among the external input sources, we’ve interviewed two experienced professionals:
Ray Hammond is Europe’s most experienced, most successful and most widely published futurologist; for more than three decades he has researched, written, and spoken about how major trends will affect society and business in the future.
Mowie Vermeersch has been called one of the world’s most influential car designers. In December 2010, he resigned from his Design Director position at Pininfarina to found Granstudio, a new creative agency that allows him to direct his deep experience in automotive design toward design strategy and mobility design, including transit spaces and public transport.
We hope their perspectives will open interesting, fresh and new discussions for us all. You will find extracts from these interviews in this week’s in-depth article.
Sincerely yours
DVN Editor in Chief
