The trend is becoming rather clear: again this year, there were fewer lighting-related lectures at the SAE International Congress and Expo than last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.
In a long slide from the late 1990s, when lighting- and vision-related papers took up multiple sessions with filled-up lecture rooms and were buttressed by numerous major and minor lighting company expo booths, this year there were just eight papers on topics related to driver vision, and not all of them were first presentations of their content; we humbly note that at least one of this year’s SAE papers was first presented at the DVN US Workshop this past January—a workshop that packed a large conference hall with attendees, filled an entire (long!) day with original content, and still had to be supplemented by an intercontinental telephone conference.
