Today we’re happy to release our report on the Korean vehicle lighting market. We extend our appreciation and thanks to our DVN Korean representative, Mr. B.Y. Chung, the main author of this report. His deep knowledge or the Korean market allowed to gather most of the important information. He introduced me and Ralf Schäfer to the Korean companies we visited during our travel to Korea. We talked with OEM Hyundai; tier-1s Hyundai Mobis, SL, AMS, and IHL; with tier 2 Seoul Semiconductor, and with KATRI, the Korean regulatory agency. I was impressed by these visits, and now Ralf and I can share its fruits with you. In the report, you will first discover useful information on the Korean market then all the needed information on the 5 Korean OEMs: Hyundai, Kia, GM, Ssangyong, and Renault Samsung including their history, business, strategy, and manufacturing facilities.
The next part of the report is dedicated to set makers SL Corp, Hyundai IHL, Hyundai Mobis, and AMS emphasizing on their business, strategy and business. An interview presenting their vision of future close all the different points related to set makers.
Light source suppliers take a great role in the automotive lighting.
Seoul Semiconductor are presented in detail with their vision, their global network, their intellectual property, and their R&D followed by an interview on their vision of lighting in 2020–’25. They have the ambition to be the first worldwide in LED for all lighting applications and presented interesting data including best-in-class brightness results in their R&D. And there’s up-to-the-minute information from Samsung and LG Innotek, too.
There is a common link between all these lighting players: their strong dependence on Hyundai Motors and the resultant common target being to achieve what Hyundai want. But their strategy is now changing. I have seen some new trends mainly in Mobis who presented new high level technologies and mock-ups. They are now seeking new markets overseas. No longer just followers, they are galloping along the learning curve and soon we will surely see them develop into pioneers. For this reason, we should see these lighting suppliers becoming more and more aggressive in the US, China, and even the European markets.
Illustrated with tables, graphics, and photos, this report about the Korean automotive lighting Industry will allow you to become familiar with this growing part of the global automotive lighting market. We hope you find it as informative to read as we did to write!
Sincerely yours
