Last month, we announced our intent to hold our next workshop in Japan in early July this year. After positive feedback from many worldwide experts, I decided to go ahead with this challenging project. The exact location in the Tokyo area will be defined in May but the dates have been already fixed. Save them in your agenda: Welcome Soirée on the evening of Tuesday 3 July, and workshop on Wednesday 4 July.
The target of the workshop : to investigate how and when new LED technologies will impact the Japanese, greater Asian, and worldwide automotive lighting markets during the 2012-2020 timeframe. The workshop will allow an exceptional open exchange of experience and ideas on LED technologies for automotive lighting among Japanese OEM’s and suppliers with American and European additional input.
This DVN workshop will open a new path for LED lighting. It will confirm the recognised need to overcome the obstacles which hinder adoption of LEDs: local regulations, lack of standardisation of LED light sources, no precise forecast of quantities, unsatisfying reliability of LED lighting systems, lighting performance that is still developing, packaging factors, passive or active cooling, and energy consumption.
Here is a first draft of the workshop docket :
• In the morning: 9 lectures about LED technologies with simultaneous translation English-Japanese. Seven of these are already confirmed from Audi, Nissan-Renault, Koito, Ichikoh, Automotive Lighting, Valeo, and Visteon. Two lectures have to be confirmed among Stanley, Denso, and Nichia.
• In the afternoon: 6 panel discussions among OEMs and suppliers on light sources, simulation, electronics, components, mechatronics, and interior lighting.
DVN expect the attendance of more than 30 companies, car makers, lighting suppliers tier 1 and tier 2 and the participation of worldwide regulation authorities and universities.
Workshop is free of charge for 2 attendees of any DVN Gold member company.

Sincerely yours
