After last week’s DVN summary of the survey from Frost and Sullivan published in May 2010 about the future of Driver Assistance features, Driving Vision News received a large feedback:
– Many commenters mentioned the forecast penetration of advanced safety features to a new high in North America but also in Europe.
From 4.5 million units in 2009 to 17 million in 2016 in North America
From 3.3 million in 2009 to 12 million units in Europe
It is a huge growth which can change the future of companies involved in DA.
– Others commented on the positive influence of legislation. This lever has to be considered. We have today affordable features which are able to improve safety and we have to promote regulations to mandate them.
– Still other comments were about technologies which are not sufficiently known by vehicle owners, like blind spot detection, collision warning, or traffic sign recognition. For example only 18% know of blind spot detection or collision warning.
Companies involved in such technologies have to be very creative to introduce them to end users in a simple attractive way, easy to understand and use. If we can be satisfied that 41% of vehicle owners pretend knowing adaptive lighting technologies (even if the definition is not clear), then a big job remains to extend these percentages to all safety features.
Sincerely yours
