The European Commission has published a new action plan, aimed at speeding the deployment of ITS (intelligent transport systems) and services across Europe.
On 16 December 2008, the European Commission took a major step towards the deployment and use of ITS in road transport. The action plan suggests a set of measures and a directive laying down the framework for their implementation.
ITS can significantly contribute to a cleaner, safer and more efficient transport system. “Making transport greener, reducing congestion and saving lives on Europe’s roads are high priorities for the Commission.
Intelligent transport systems will help us make progress toward achieving these goals.
Today’s initiative will therefore foster a more efficient, safer and more sustainable mobility in Europe,” says Antonio Tajani, Commission vice-president responsible for transport.
