Leoni and Volkswagen will open a manufacturing facility in Striy, Ukraine for the production of wiring systems.
The Striy facility will employ 600 people, and is set to start production of wiring systems in December 2008 and reach full production levels by March 2009. Currently, the facility produces components for GM, but a reduction in orders from GM has lowered the facility’s output, which is presently operating at half capacity.
Leoni are in the process of shifting their production from Poland to Ukraine, to gain improved access to the Russian market and also lower production costs.
