Bad aftermarket lamps jeopardize car lighting. Independent tests by German Karlsruhe University have shown that only lamps manufactured by General Electric, Osram and Philips offer a state-of-the-art front lighting. Almost all other tested aftermarket lamps show severe leaks in luminous flux and filament geometry. Not even the ECE-regulation R 37 was fulfilled. In some cases H7-lamps for head lighting delivered only 850 Lumen instead of 1500 as demanded by the ECE.
Taking these results into account, the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association ZVEI and the Motorists’ Organization AvD (Automobilclub von Deutschland) published a information flyer about bad lamps and their impact to traffic safety. Aimed to resellers and consumers it spreads the message: A lamp is not a lamp. There are big differences in performance. All car manufactures trust only the big three lamp brands.
