The 2009 BMW 7 series will come equipped with a lane-change warning system from automotive lighting and electronics supplier Hella. This marks the 9th vehicle to feature Hella’s 24-gHz radar-based technology.
The lane-change warning system warns drivers about their blind spots when changing lanes and hence reduces the risk of collisions. When the driver is about to change lanes with speed of at least 50 km/h, the system monitors adjacent right and left lanes and triggers dual warnings in case another vehicle enters the vehicle’s blind spot. The audiotacticle warning includes an illuminated symbol in the side mirror, and vibration of the steering wheel.
