Denso have developed new millimetre-wave radar smaller less costly than the currently existing version. The radar, being launched in September 2008, will be featured on a global range of vehicles. The technology will be used in pre-crash safety devices and adaptive cruise control systems, and help in avoiding collisions by recognising the on-road obstacles.
In the new radar, the transmitting and receiving antenna are integrated with the waveguide tube. The tube joins the antenna and the two devices – the receiver and the transmitter. Also, the radar uses a signal processing technology which has helped the company to reduce the number of channels that an antenna receives and hence making it possible to reduce the size of the antenna.
