Aldis plan to start testing their intersection traffic camera, the Guardian Eye, next month at a location that has yet to be revealed.
Guardian Eye traffic camera provides 360° coverage.
The single camera will be hung below a traffic signal, looking out about 200m (600ft) in every direction with its fisheye lens. A computer will analyze the data to calculate vehicle speeds, and to time the signals to maximize traffic flows. The custom camera and associated software and hardware from the company in Tennessee, USA, costs an estimated US$15 000 per intersection. DVN predicts fisheye camera technology will be aggressively integrated into vehicle-based driver assistance systems once proven in traffic control applications.
