By the 2012 model year, all new vehicles sold in the US will have to be equipped with Electronic Stability Control, and as of 2008, America’s leading consumer product testing organisation have stopped recommending cars without it. The impending ESC requirement marks the first regulatory mandate for a driver assistance system, and is expected to pave the way not only for potential additional such requirements around the world, but for increased market acceptance of even those driver assistance systems not required by law.
