Opel is introducing new lighting functions on the replacement for the Opel Vectra, called Insignia. Amongst the new features will be LED day-time running lights, motorway lighting, town lighting and a special adverse weather light. For the motorway light at speeds exceeding 100kmph the beam is raised a fraction and the current increases from 35 to 38 watt. The town light reduces the reach of the beam significantly at speed below 50kmph and provides additional spread of up to 8 degrees sideways. This should allow easier recognition of, for example, playing children in the vicinity. For rain and snow the driver side beam is reduced to 32 watt (from 35) and the curb-side beam raised to 38 Watt. This will enhance illumination of road edges and lead to better guidance for the driver, whilst reducing glare on wet roads to oncoming drivers.
