A US recall of 790,000 Volkswagen cars for brake light system checks will not be extended to Europe, a VW UK spokesman said on Wednesday.
“The recall appears to be affecting components specific to the North American market – meaning there are no plans to issue a recall here in Europe,” the spokesman told
It was reported yesterday that Volkswagen would recall about 790,000 vehicles in the US for faulty brake lights.
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall notice said the company’s Jetta, Golf, GTI, R32, and New Beetle models may have brake lights and switches that do not work properly, possibly leading to an accident.
The vehicles included in the recall are the 1998-2007 New Beetle; the 1999-2005 Jetta sedan (Bora in most other markets); the 1999-2006 Golf and GTI; the 2001-05 Jetta (Golf, Bora) wagon; the 2003-07 New Beetle Convertible; and the 2004 [Golf] R32.
Some of these vehicles sold in North America were built in different assembly plants from equivalent models sold in Europe.
