Japan was the first Asian country to bring its experts to GTB and over the past four decades has established a reputation as a major contributor of expertise from its industrial, academic, governmental and technical service sectors. The Japan Automobile Standards Internationalisation Centre (JASIC) was founded in 1987 and has actively supported cooperation between the Japanese government and industry for the internationalisation of automobile regulations and certification systems by the government. GTB has provided significant support from that time to harmonisation activities that resulted in the adoption of the UN Lighting and light-signalling Regulations by Japan.
