Following on the heels of Mathieu Lips, Jean-Philippe Benoist—Renault’s lighting boss since 2013—changed the mindset of Renault about lighting with a strategy based on innovation and styling differentiation. He granted DVN an exclusive interview to describe his vision and achievements. We were especially struck by his opening remark: “Our Clio, the best-selling B-vehicle in Europe, has a high take rate with Full LED which makes it probably the best selling Full-LED vehicle in Europe».
«Renault are democratising this technology!”.
DVN: After long being a follower in lighting technologies, Renault are becoming a leader in the B & C segments. What’s your strategy?
JPB : Renault’s brand promise is “French Design and Easy Life”. Lighting is definitely at the heart of this story. Our C-Shape lighting signature is a part of our brand identity. We also have democratised LED technology to a maximum of customers. For example: Clio, the most-sold B-segment vehicle in Europe, is now sold with a very significant mix of LED headlamps, bringing so much safety and comfort. This is real good value for our customer, and definitely unique in the B-segment.
