1) “Lighting is the new competition area of car makers”
Wolfgang Huhn, Lighting and Vision Director (Audi) |
Dr. Huhn started presenting the history of automotive lighting with sketches and impressive video showing Audi’s innovations in the recent new technologies. His first example is the LED-array DRL which started in 2006 on the A4 and is now standard on all Audi models, and now most of the world’s automakers are following this strategy. The second example is the full-LED headlamp started with the R8 and now available in all Audi models as standard or optional equipment. The third example is the matrix beam introduced on the A8 and now extending across the entire Audi range, replacing mechatronic solutions (light shades, shutters, motors) with software and addressable LED emitters. Shadowing out of up to 8 segments is possible with foreground light moving continuously—called the “Move Back Effect”—and a constant use of the full headlamp aperture
