Rainer Neumann from Visteon is working on an assessment of lighting which is easy enough to be accepted by journalists and rigorous enough to be accepted by lighting experts.
Find below his proposal:
• Low Beam assessement
Factor | Criteria | Points |
2 | Light volume | 1 to 20 |
1 | Dispersion-Width of the light | 1 to 10 |
2 | Homogeneity | 1 to 20 |
1 | Range | 1 to 10 |
1 | Glare to oncoming drivers | 1 to 10 |
Total maximum = 70
Comment: The idea is that low beam is rated by the consumers by light volume and homogeneity as first reference (factor 2).
• High Beam assessment
Factor | Criteria | Points |
2 | Light volume | 1 to 20 |
1 | Dispersion-Width of the light | 1 to 10 |
1 | Homogeneity | 1 to 10 |
2 | Range – Hot spot | 1 to 20 |
Total maximum = 60
Comment: The idea is that high beam is rated by the consumer by light volume and range (hot spot) as first reference (factor 2).
Additional :
Low beam with max.70 points has a factor 2 which means a total maximum of 140 points.
High beam with max.60 points has a factor 1 which means a total maximum of 60 points.
Total maximum points for low and high beam will be 200 points
Conclusion
The score for the final results is:
1 star * 20 – 60 points
2 stars ** 60 – 100 points
