A longtime player in the vehicle automation arena, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has just released a $5M request for proposals to implement a “Vehicle Assistance and Automation System” for converting a narrow freeway shoulder to a limited access lane for use by transit buses. The idea is to use “state-of-the-art vehicle guidance and lane-assist technology” so that automated steering keeps the bus within its lane at full speed.
