Autoliv’s night vision system was first introduced on the BMW 7-Series. The infrared-based system displays a TV-like image of the road scene ahead on the navigation display and scans the road for pedestrians more than two times further than the headlight range. The system also analysis the scene content to determine if the pedestrian is at risk of being hit by the vehicle and sends an alert to the driver.
The system is designed to cope with varying country and city driving conditions. The areas where higher pedestrian traffic is anticipated, the system monitors a smaller and shorter corridor of the road ahead to prevent too many warnings. While driving at higher speed, the system monitors a wider and deeper corridor of the road.
The system will be presented in a live demonstration on October 7, 2008 at VISION congress.
