As you can imagine, I read a lot of news sources and magazines talking about the Mondial auto show. I’m surprised and disapointed to find nothing in them about the lights on the cars. We in the lighting world have an unusually strong interest in the subject, of course, but usually there’s at least some coverage; this is for me the first time there’s such a low amount of information about lighting even as many new and innovative headlamps and rear lamps are on the new production and concept cars.
Driving Vision News is on the job; this week we’ve got a preview for you of our Mondial report to be published on the 18th of October. Designers, stylists, and engineers are really picking up and running with the new possibilities unlocked by LEDs and other new technologies, and there have been some very nice lights on display at Mondial.
But still: nothing in the newspepers and magazines—really nothing at all. Why not?
There’s a lot of interesting information about ADAS, EVs, and AVs, which is fine, but that means lighting has to compete with those for coverage space. What we have to do to make it happen? For a start, give more information to your communications department and to try to convince them about the interest of the technology. They’ll probably listen—a month ago I had a long talk with a group of automotive generalists; most of them told me they’re interested in new lighting and willing to talk it up if they have basis material for it.
And there’s good news about VISION to be held this Thursday and Friday: 550 attendees will be present, and 25 cars will be demonstrated in the nighttime ride-and-drive sessions at Mortefontaine. See you there!
Sincerely yours
