Just two weeks ago I did a night drive of the Audi A5 in the Ingolstadt area. I discovered a very nice light which proves that the matrix beam technology has made great progress. A5 is for me in the top three of the best lights. But for how long? Oftener and oftener, I discover during one of my regular night drives a new best lighting—better still than what I had considered the best light just shortly before that, and before that, and so on. It shows that vehicle lighting is making progress in performance faster and faster, thanks to the increasingly-rapid arrival of new technologies and techniques. After a succession of best headlamps being HID, then LED, now we are in the digital realm with the Audi A5 and the Mercedes R-Class.
What amazing progress in LED headlamps since the first ones wherein the target was only the styling appearance and a low power consumption! Truly a grand job by everyone involved: lighting specialists from automakers, tier-1 and -2 suppliers, universities and research institutes, and the standards-and-regulations people!
