With a camera and a special algorithm, Mobileye have developed a system which integrates three warning systems in a single unit:
• Forward collision warning.
The forward collision warning system detects situations where the vehicle would collide with another if no changes were made to the vehicle speed or direction. In this situation the vehicle warns the driver audio visually.
• Lane departure warning.
LDW detects road markings and provides the system with various measurements related to them. Unintended lane departure triggers an audiovisual warning to the driver.
• Headway monitoring warning.
Headway is defined as the time it will take to reach the current position of a vehicle driving ahead, and is calculated by dividing the distance to the vehicle ahead with the travel speed of the host vehicle.
This single unit is also able to detect a drowsy or inattentive driver and advise him to take a break. The camera is fitted on the front windshield inside the vehicle, close to the rear view mirror. From this camera and the advanced algorithms developed by Mobileye, the system detects and measure the distance to vehicles and to lane markings.
